Asakusa Shitamachi Tanabata Matsuri is a traditional Japanese festival held in the Asakusa district of Tokyo. It takes place every year from August 6th to 8th and celebrates the legend of the star-crossed lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi. However, this year 2023 will be July 8-9.

During the festival, the streets of Asakusa are decorated with vibrant and colorful paper lanterns, streamers, and decorations. These decorations symbolize the Milky Way, which separates Orihime and Hikoboshi for most of the year. Visitors can enjoy the lively atmosphere and immerse themselves in the traditional Japanese culture.
